The Downtowners was founded in 1973 out of the concern of the congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Downtown Area Church Council to serve the spiritual, educational and social needs of the urban student.
Today, the Downtowners represents over a dozen dioceses and judicatories in providing valuable assistance to the students through counseling, education and community outreach programs.
The Downtowners continues to expand its ministry to serve the needs of the downtown student, building for the future by providing support in the development of responsible citizens who are able to make a contribution to their community.
Directional leadership for the Downtowners is provided by a Board of Directors, comprised of faculty, staff and administratiors of the Columbus colleges and universities as well as members of the downtown churches and the commuity at large.
Day to day operations are led by the Executive Director and Campus Minister, Dr. Ellen O'Shaughnessy, who is professionnally trained in counseling and ministry, and who possesses substantial expertise in each of these areas.
